Obituary

Larry Wayne Huey, age 76, of Scott City, MO; passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2019 after battling Alzheimer’s for 8 years at his home.

He was born August 18, 1943 in Cape Girardeau, MO; son of Robert (Duck) and Etta Perry Huey. He and Sandra Dee Lafentres met at the age of sixteen. Three years later they were united in marriage on January 5, 1963 at the Red Star Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, MO. They moved to their forever home in Scott City in 1972.

Larry worked for the Cotton Belt Railroad and retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after thirty-nine years. He was a HAM radio enthusiast, enjoyed the outdoors, mushroom hunting, fishing, and traveling with his wife.

Larry was a kind, thoughtful person who was always there to help. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa and friend who will never be forgotten.

Loving survivors include his wife of fifty-six years Sandra Huey; children David Huey and Wayne Huey both of Scott City; grandchildren Brent (Kristen) Huey of Rochester, New Hampshire; Celina Walters of Sikeston, MO; great-grandchild Connor Huey of New Hampshire; brother Tim (Cindy) Huey of Jackson, MO; and sisters Ruth (David) McDowell of Altenburg, MO; and Linda (John) Barber of Brazeau, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Burial will be at a later date. Liley Funeral Homes is in-charge of arrangements.

I remember visiting Larry and Sandy's house in the summers as a kid to swim. In between pool time, Larry was always willing to take the time to show me his radio equipment and the guns and knives that he had collected through the years. As I got older, I noticed that Larry greeted everyone with a big, warm smile and a firm handshake. I have no idea how it came up, but one piece of advice that Larry gave me was to cut my fingernails round and my toenails square. This would prevent ingrown toenails he said. I've cut them that way ever since, and I haven't had an ingrown nail yet! I'm sure that is just one of many examples of the wisdom he shared over the years with other people. May his memory be eternal.
